  • All food supplements that are marketed in Estonia must be notified.

Notification

  • Food supplements placed on the Estonian market for the first time should be notified to the Agriculture and Food Board.
  • The following information must be sent for notification:
  1.  Product and company information;
  2. Date of marketing;
  3. Examples of labelling (all the information on the sales package like text, pictures, symbols, etc.)
  • Examples of labelling must be provided in Estonian as well as in the original language (unless the original packaging of the product is already in Estonian).
  • Notification should be sent to:
  1.   Via Ministry of Rural Affairs Customer Portal. (Used only if company is not registered in Estonia)
  2.  By e-mail to teatised@pta.agri.ee
  3.  By post to address Väike-Paala 3, Harjumaa, Tallinn 11415
  • Notification should be made no later than the day on which the food supplement is placed on the market.
  • When the same product is packaged in multiple sizes, no notification is necessary.
  • If the names of the food supplements, brands, manufacturers, and/or countries of origin change, a new notification is required.
  • If the name of the notifier’s company changes, no further notice is necessary.
  • Notification documents contain information about full Latin names of plants used in the product.
  • If the product contains medical herbs, the authorized person should contact the Agency of Medicines for classification.
  • Product notifications sent by mail or email will be included into the database one week after every required document is received. When a food supplement is notified online, the database is instantly updated.
  • The Agriculture and Food Board does not provide notice confirmation letters unless requested by a company.
  • The notification is not a declaration by the Agriculture and Food Board of the conformity of the product.
  • Notification gives the legal right to market the food supplements in Estonia.
  • Food supplement safety and compliance are the responsibility of food producers and distributors.
  • Food supplements are removed from the database if:
  1.   Product is defined as a medicinal product;
  2.  Product does not meet the definition of a food supplement;
  3.  Product contains any prohibited ingredients.
