Cosmetics Registration in Tanzania

Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics (Control of Cosmetics) Regulations, 2010

Who can register :  

TFDA registered dealers of cosmetics or overseas cosmetics manufacturers or local firms to whose order and specifications of the cosmetic product are manufactured or any other person authorized by the manufacturer or owner of the product.

The applicant shall be a person who is a resident of Tanzania. If the applicant is not a resident in Tanzania, he shall appoint a local responsible person who must reside in Tanzania or a company incorporated in Tanzania. Proof of official appointment shall be submitted to TFDA.

Data to be communicated : 

SPECIAL COSMETIC PRODUCTS:                                

  • Covering letter.
  • Applicant’s license to deal with cosmetics and/ or company’s certificate of incorporation.
  • GMP certificate and manufacturing license of the manufacturing facility.
  • Free sales certificate and marketing authorization from the country of origin.
  • List of ingredients.
  • Certificate of conformity from TBS.
  • Label artwork.
  • Information to support the claim benefit.
  • Two (2) samples.
  • A declaration that the information submitted is correct. 

NORMAL COSMETIC PRODUCTS:                  

  • Covering letter.
  • Applicant’s license to deal with cosmetics or company’s certificate of incorporation.
  • List of ingredients.
  • Certificate of conformity from TBS.
  • Label artwork.
  • Supplier’s name and documents.
  • Two (2) samples.
  • A declaration that the information submitted is correct.

Process:  

All applications shall be submitted through the  

  • Online portal link www.tfda.go.tz/portal. 
  • Copy of printout of the same shall be submitted at TFDA offices. 
  • The applicant shall before submission of application request for appropriate categorization.

Timeframe and fees: 

Validity of the license : 3 years

Every application shall be accompanied by appropriate fees as specified in the Fees Regulations in force at the time of application.
