Fees for Food Supplement Registration in India

  • FSSAI Basic Registration – Fee of Rs.100
  • FSSAI State License – Fee between Rs.2,000 to Rs.5,000 (Depends on the type of business carried out)
  • FSSAI Central License – Fee of Rs.7,500

License Validity

An FSSAI license can be acquired for a period ranging anywhere from 1 year to 5 years. The FSSAI has prescribed different validity periods for different licenses and food products. Your fee also varies according to the food license and the validity period.

Types of FSSAI Registration

  1.   Central License

FBOs need to apply for an FSSAI central license if their annual sales exceed Rs. 20 crores. Form B is the FSSAI registration form the applicant must complete to receive an FSSAI central license.

  1.  State License

FBOs are required to get an FSSAI state license if their annual turnover is greater than Rs. 12 lakhs but less than Rs. 20 crores. Form B is the FSSAI registration form that must be completed by the applicant to receive an FSSAI state license.

  1.  Basic Registration

FBOs with annual revenue under Rs. 12 lakhs are required to register as FSSAI basic members. Form A is the FSSAI registration form that the applicant must complete to receive FSSAI basic registration.

Procedure for Obtaining FSSAI Registration Online

  1.   By filling out and submitting Form A (application for Registration) or Form B (application for State and Central License) on the FoSCoS portal. FBOs can receive FSSAI registration online. By submitting Form A or Form B to the Food and Safety Department, FBOs can also register offline.
  2. The required documentation must be submitted with the FSSAI registration form. When submitting the application, documents must be uploaded online via the FoSCoS portal. or physically sent to the Food and Safety Department with the application.
  3.  Within 7 days of receiving an application—either in person or online via the FoSCoS portal—the Department may approve or reject the FSSAI registration form. The applicant must be informed in writing if their application is denied.
  4. The Department will evaluate/scrutinize the documents submitted.
  5.  If required, The Department may conduct an inspection of the food premises, before granting the FSSAI registration certificate.
  6. The Department will provide an FSSAI registration certificate with the registration number and the applicant’s email address picture if it is satisfied that the FBO satisfies all necessary requirements. By signing onto the FoSCoS site, the applicant can download the FSSAI registration certificate.
  7.  FBO should clearly display the certificate of FSSAI registration at the place of business during business hours.

Documents Required for Obtaining the FSSAI Registration

The following documents needed to obtain FSSAI basic registration, FSSAI state license and FSSAI central license:

  1.  Photo ID proof of the food business operators.
  2. Business constitution certificate, i.e. partnership deed, certificate of incorporation, shop and establishment license or other business registration certificate.
  3. Proof of possession of business premises, rental agreement/ NOC from the owner of the rented premises/ utility bills/ etc.
  4. List of food products manufactured or processed.
  5. Bank account information.
  6. Supporting documents (if required) like NOC by Municipality or Panchayat, Health NOC, copy of License from the manufacturer, etc.

In addition to the general documents listed above, the FSSAI state license and FSSAI central license require the following specific documents. 

The following specific documents is needed to receive an FSSAI state license:

  1. Form B duly completed and signed
  2. Plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions and operation-wise area allocation
  3. List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor with address, contact details, and photo ID
  4. Name and list of equipment and machinery used with the number and installed capacity
  5. Authority letter from manufacturer nominated a responsible person name and address
  6. Analysis report of water to be used in the process to confirm the portability
  7. Copy of certificate obtained under Coop Act 1861/Multi-State Coop Act 2002

In addition to the general license, the following specific documents are required to obtain FSSAI central license:

  1.  Form B duly completed and signed
  2. Plan of the processing unit showing the dimensions and operation-wise area allocation
  3. List of Directors/ Partners/ Proprietor with address, contact details, and photo ID
  4. Name and list of equipment and machinery used with the number and installed capacity
  5. Authority letter from manufacturer nominated a responsible person name and address
  6. Analysis report of water to be used in the process to confirm the portability
  7. Source of raw material for milk, meat etc.
  8. Recall plan wherever applicable
  9. Ministry of Commerce Certificate for 100% EOU
  10. NOC/PA document issued by FSSAI
  11. IE code document issued by DGFT
  12. Form IX
  13. Certificate from Ministry of Tourism
  14. Supporting document for proof of turnover and transportation
